Have you ever had a perfect day? It was late spring in 1993 when I got a call from Glenn Lau about some catch and release for small mouth bass. It sounded like a good time, fishing with the original king of the lake and his friend Homer Circle.

The bass fishing had just started, with good numbers of large females available, so I was pretty relaxed and knew we'd be in for a fun day. Glenn was in a hurry to catch a few and get some pictures in the early light, but Homer started asking about walleye. It seems that in all his years of fishing, Homer had NEVER caught a really big walleye! We just happened to be in an area that had been producing large walleye, so I shut down, handed Homer a rod and told him to catch his walleye so we could head off to bassin'. On his first cast, he hauled in a 30" fish that weighed in at 10lbs. 4oz.! It was like watching a kid at Christmas - Homer was a happy camper. By 11 AM the three of us had boated 15 walleye ranging from 9-11lbs.! I looked over at Homer and asked if he'd had enough. His glassy-eyed stare and big smile told me all was well and whatever I decided was fine with him. I went back to Plan A and we spent the rest of that day catching some fine bass!
